Power Unlimited! How would you like to see all power vested in one human being? Wouldn't it be dreadful? Life's experience shows that no man can be trusted with absolute power; he always will abuse it and use such power to his own advantage and to suit his own whims. None of the dictators of the world had "unlimited" power, but what they did have, they frightfully mishandled. Power and love are a rare combination in humans. But, praise God! they are wonderfully united in One Person, Who alone has "unlimited power", and Who knows how to use it aright. And that One of course is God; the God we know in our Lord Jesus Christ; He alone is the Possessor and Wielder of unlimited power. That power is first of all displayed in creation. As Romans 1:20 tells us "the invisible things of God from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal Power and Godhead, so that they (men) are without excuse." Creation proves God's tremendous power, according to this text. And we read further that the God Who created all things is none other than the Lord Jesus Christ, as in Col. 1:16 where "all things, in heaven and in earth, were created by Him apd for Him." Here truly is power unlimited. A scientist recently stated that "the sun radiates more energy 'in one second' than man has used since the dawn of civilization." How do you like that? And this is just one of the smallest of the heavenly bodies. All creation declares, as Rom. 1:20 tells us, that God - Christ- has unlimited power. He made the worlds by His power and He holds them all in their courses by the "Word of His power" - see Hebrews 1:3. He but speaks and all creation operates according to His direction. But the most marvelous thing of all is that He combines such almighty power with Almighty Love. Though all power is His, yet, in order to save men from their sins, He submitted in weakness to be nailed to Calvary's Cross; there to bear our sins, and pay the penalty for us, that sinful men such as you and I might be saved. Having accomplished that work of redemption, He ascended to heaven and sits at the right hand of power. As He says in Matt. 20:18: "All power is given unto Me in heaven and on earth." Or again in John 17:2 saying to God His Father: "Thou hast given Me power over all flesh." Or again we read in Eph. 1:20-21: "God wrought in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and set Mm on His own right hand in the heavenlies, far above all principality and power and might and dominion and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come." And what does He do with such unlimited power? Listen to Him: "All power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth; go ye therefore and teach (or preach the gospel) to all nations." Amazing wonder! Christ uses His ahnighty power to offer salvation to the very ones who rejected and crucified Him. Power over all flesh is His, but He employs it to give "eternal life" to all who will come to Him in simple faith. His unlimited power is used right now to save sinners from their sins and give them a passport to heaven, through the merits of His precious blood shed for sinners. Will you accept this invitation, extended to you by unlimited power and unlimited love? And not only has He the power to save sinners to begin with, but He is able to keep them saved, for He is able to save to the uttermost all that come unto God by Him - Heb. 7:25. No one is able to pluck His sheep out of His hands John 10:28-30. But oh, my friend, do not forget that He also has the power to put you in hell, if you refuse His grace. "Be not afraid of them that kill the body", said He, and after that have no more that they can do, but "fear Him, which after He hath killed, hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, FEAR HIM." Yes, Christ has power unlimited. Power to save those who will trust in Him, but also power to consign to hell all those who reject His great salvation. Oh, won't you come to Him right now, and prove that He is able and willing to save you from hell and for eternal bliss? "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved." -August Van Ryn |
